  • Too Hot to Fly

I hate travelling on Sundays.  I’m on the road nearly every week.  I get only two days at home to enjoy our pool and all the other things I work to buy.

On any given day you can run into lots of different weather issues throughout the country.  But as far as I know, Phoenix is the only city that can have the “too hot to fly” issue.  I was on my way to Indianapolis on a non-direct flight.  The temperature was suppose to hit around 114°.   We left the gate mostly on time and proceeded to sit on the runway for about 20 minutes.  Then an announcement was made that we were heading back to the gate due to a mechanical issue.   Apparently, the heat had set off some warning light.  Back at the gate we waited a while, why the issue was corrected.  Several minutes later we were heading back out.   Again, we sat on the runway for a few minutes, then turned back, another warning light was going off.

At that point, I was in real danger of missing my connection.  It was clear we were going to be at the gate for a while longer this time.  I decided it wasn’t an option to take this flight.   After talking to the Flight Attendant, she said they were probably going to give the option to get off the flight if passengers couldn’t make their connections.  As I was preparing to leave, I noticed a fellow gay traveler I see from time to time.  He talking on his iphone to his partner, I think, sitting there dressed in his Ed Hardy t-shirt  (bit of a label queen).  It looked like he was taking my queue gathering up his Coach clutch and following me out.

So my Sunday was partially saved by the heat but when I got home I realized I left my ipod on the plane.  I contacted Us Airways right away but I don’t hold out hope of getting it back.
